Supporting Our Team, Strengthening Our Impact

At VHA Home HealthCare (VHA), we know that the well-being of our team of home care specialists is essential to meeting and exceeding the evolving needs of our clients and community. One key way we gain valuable insights into our team’s experiences and perspectives is through our annual Worklife Pulse (WLP) Survey.

This survey helps us unearth and celebrate our strengths, identify areas for improvement and reinforces our commitment to fostering a positive and supportive workplace where our teams lead with purpose, build bonds that matter and feel empowered every day. Together, our teams embody VHA’s purpose of providing care at home, delivered with heart, led by science.

The WLP Survey is open to all staff and service providers and takes place in the last quarter of each calendar year. The feedback we receive plays a crucial role in shaping the future of our workplace. In 2024, we achieved a 48% response rate, with feedback from 1,569 team members.

We are pleased to share the results from our 2024 WLP Survey.

Areas for Improvement

From a wellness perspective, we saw a slight decline in overall mental health ratings, while emotional and physical well-being continue to be the top workplace stressors.

Mental Health Ratings:

  • 38% of staff and service providers rated their mental health as ‘excellent’, down from 40% in 2023
  • 54% rated their mental health as ‘okay’
  • 7% indicated their mental health was ‘not so good’

Workplace Stressors:

  • 38% of team members reported an increase in emotional exhaustion this month
  • 43% reported increased physical exhaustion (both slightly up from 2023 by 1%)

Supporting the wellness of our team remains a top priority at VHA. We are committed to addressing these challenges by enhancing mental health support and workplace well-being initiatives across the organization.

Next Steps

The 2024 WLP survey results confirm that VHA is a great place to work! While we are proud of these results, we recognize that there’s always room for improvement. To enhance the work experience at every level, we are committed to ongoing assessment and action.

Supervisors and managers will review their team’s results to identify progress, recognize opportunities for improvement and determine where targeted action plans are needed. This includes recognizing good work, addressing mental well-being and ensuring that feedback directly informs decisions and improvements.

To ensure our leaders have the tools and knowledge to take meaningful action, VHA has launched two exciting workshops:

  • WLP Action Planning Sessions – These sessions equip new leaders with skills to guide meaningful engagement and conversations with their teams about their experience at work and collaborating to build a Worklife Pulse Action Plan.
  • Leading with Purpose Workshop – Facilitated by an external executive coach and leadership expert, this workshop focuses on leadership well-being, explores team insights, aligns action plans with organizational priorities, and uses data to identify shared challenges across teams.

Every Voice Matters

We’re deeply grateful to every team member who took the time to share their feedback through the 2024 WLP Survey. Attracting and retaining top talent is always a priority and we are so proud of our team of staff and home care specialists. We know that a fulfilling work environment that empowers and enriches the lives of our team members today is how we will continue to lead the future of health and independence at home. We look forward to advancing this important work in collaboration with our colleagues across the organization.
