Dr. Emily King PhD, P.Eng.
Director of Research
Dr. Emily King is the Director of Research at VHA Home HealthCare, where she leads a research team focused on creating evidence to inform better care for homecare clients, create safer teams of care providers, and build toward a more connected health system.
An experienced homecare researcher with backgrounds in mechanical and biomedical engineering, her current research foci include pursuing opportunities to improve safety and quality of work-life for home and community care providers, promoting mobility and independence for seniors living at home, and increasing the accessibility of the built environment. She holds multiple patents and has contributed to the development of assistive technologies for toileting, mobility and safe patient lifting.
Emily’s academic preparation includes a Master’s and PhD from the University of Toronto, and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. She currently holds Assistant Professor status in the Division of Occupational and Environmental Health at the University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health, a visiting scientist appointment at KITE-UHN, and adjunct assistant professor status in the University of Waterloo’s School of Public Health Sciences.
